The lead is braided underneath the beads as well, and the beads are secured with a couple of knots to prevent them from moving. There is a nylon cord inside for extra durability, but the lead is only 4–5 mm thick, so please keep in mind that it is not meant to withstand absolutely anything.

Kangaroo leather is the most durable and softest leather you can find, which makes it perfect for show leads. The leather is cut, beveled, and treated before braiding, and then rolled after braiding to make it as soft and smooth as possible. If you take good care of your lead, it will last a long time. Use a leather balm that does not stain, and remember that the beads can rub against each other, so try to keep it in a bag when you’re not using it.
